What is a doula?

The many benefits of using a birth doula

Research shows that women who use a birth doula are:

  • less likely to need Pitocin

  • less likely to have a cesarean birth

  • less likely to use any pain medication

  • more likely to rate their childbirth experience positively

How to choose your doula…

There are local and national directories and agencies that you can use to search for doulas in your area. Start by reaching out to a few that sound aligned with what you are looking for and set up short phone interviews. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions about their past experiences as well as questions that focus on your particular needs or fears around birth.
